First 3D Showdown in Summer 2009
James Cameron 3D Movie Dreamworks has decided to put their movie, Monsters. vs. Aliens against Fox and James Cameron's movie Avatar. Both movies are scheduled for release on Memorial day in 2009 and will only be exhibited in the new 3D format.

The reason that this is such a noteworthy conflict is that in 2009 there may not be enough 3D-equipped screens to handle simultaneous 3D releases. The expected amount of screens that will be able to accommodate a 3D movie at that time is 5000 (currently there are only 700 screens able to do so), which doesn't even meet the demands of Dreamworks' Jeffrey Katzenberg, who claims he needs 6000 screens for Monsters. vs. Aliens. And since Cameron's film is now being said to have a budget close to $200 million, it is assumed that Fox will have a similar demand for its own title.

Obviously one of the films will need to move, and it will likely be Monsters. vs. Aliens. With Avatar being Cameron's first film since Titanic, it is certainly the more eagerly awaited picture and is therefore the most powerful.

Expect an announcement sometime in the next year that states that Monsters will relocate to June.

Milos Forman to Stage an Opera in Prague
Milos Forman (left) and conductor Libor Pesek (right) Czech-born director Milos Forman is back in Prague to stage an opera at the Czech National Theater.

"I never did an opera on a stage," Forman, 75, told a news conference Wednesday. "Filmmaking is a piece of cake compared to theater."

The jazz opera A Walk Worthwhile by Czech authors Jiri Suchy and Jiri Slitr dates from the 1960s, when it had a run of 64 performances at their small theater, Semafor.

In 1966, Forman transformed the opera into a TV movie. Now, more than 40 years later, Forman is back to transform it again for a big stage - aided his twin sons - Petr and Matej.

The first night is scheduled April 22.

The first single from the CD, Heart-Shaped Glasses (When the Heart Guides the Hand), is expected to arrive at radio stations this week and will be accompanied by a video shot in 3D.

The clip is said to be an excerpt from a larger project that Manson is filming with director James Cameron, although that collaboration has yet to be officially confirmed.
